[00:01:01.760] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Welcome back to the power in purpose podcast. It's me, your host, Candice. And welcome to part two of our two part series on brand photography. In the last episode, I shared more about my journey and why I waited so long to get new photos of myself. I talked about some of my insecurities, my lack of confidence, how I overcame them, and some of the lessons I learned once I decided to step in front of the camera, Amelie's camera. And in this episode, I'm bringing in my brand photographer, Amelie Orange, from the Branded Boss Lady, to share with you her top tips on how you can prepare for your brand shoot and have the most amazing brand shoot ever. In this week's episode, she's sharing with you how to prep your wardrobe, how to prep your props, how to prep your shot list, and also how to find a photographer that connects with you and has experience specializing in brand photography. We also start off the interview just talking about her transition from a wedding photographer into a brand photographer. Whenever I get the chance to ask somebody how they make that pivot, I always love to take it. I love to hear how people make pivots in their career. I think it's inspiring. I just never know who's listening. You might be thinking, Hey, I want to get out of this industry and start something different. Or you might be thinking, Hey, I found something I love more. It's just nice to hear from people who've made big pivots. We also talk just a little bit about that. L et me introduce you to Amelie before we get into our interview. Amelie is my brand photographer. She's an Orlando based brand photographer and brand stylist that works with female business owners, leaders, makers, and entrepreneurs to help them show up, connect with other customers, earn more money, and attract their dream clients. She's photographed over 1,500 women over the last seven years. Her clients have been featured in everything from Forbes to the New York Times and Fortune magazine. She has tons of experience. She's also photographed for brands like Anthropology, Lauren Conrad and more. Amelie has clients all over the US and internationally. Hello, I flew in from Barbados she hosts their branding sessions in her beautiful natural light studio where she works with her clients to create sets for their personalized brand sessions.

[00:03:33.640] - Candice Coppola (Host)

She's the bomb.

[00:03:35.640] - Candice Coppola (Host)

She's amazing at what she does. I've never felt more taken care of being photographed than with Amelie. She took care of every detail. It was so refreshing. I think that she is an incredible expert, having photographed over 1,500 women, helping them to have a visual representation of their business. I'm just so excited for you to hear from her today. So let's get into my interview with my brand photographer, Amelie Orange.

[00:04:02.880] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Hey, Amelie welcome to the show.

[00:04:04.650] - Amalie Orrange (Guest)

Hey, how's it going?

[00:04:06.000] - Candice Coppola (Host)

It's going good. I'm so excited that you're here joining us today to talk all about getting your brand photography together and reaching out to a brand photographer, refreshing those headshots, getting some brand photos done. You are my official brand photographer. I don't know if you know this, but no one else can photograph me now because you did such an amazing job. Oh, my gosh.

[00:04:29.380] - Amalie Orrange (Guest)

I love it. Thank you.

[00:04:30.360] - Candice Coppola (Host)

You're welcome. In last week's episode, I talked more about my experience with you, how amazing it was, but also just my experience prolonging getting a brand shoot for so long. I waited, in my opinion, way too long to the detriment of my own business. I think I could have probably done some things a lot quicker if I had just felt good about myself and felt confident to get in front of the camera. I'm excited to talk with you today about how we can do just that and also how we can really prepare for our next brand shoot. Yes.

[00:05:05.030] - Amalie Orrange (Guest)

I'm excited to share.

[00:05:06.470] - Candice Coppola (Host)

I know. I also just first want to talk a little bit about your journey because I think it's interesting and I didn't put this on our prep sheets, so you're just going to have to roll with it.

[00:05:18.130] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Still on the fly.

[00:05:19.060] - Speaker 2

But I think there's something interesting in your own story because you started out as a wedding photographer and you photographed weddings for years. T hen maybe similarly to my story, there was a tipping point for you where you discovered another passion that you had. Now you do brand photography just solely. You help women build amazing brands through photographs. I just think there's something interesting in that story. What would you say was the tipping point for you, from a wedding photographer to then making the decision that you wanted to leave that business behind and step into a new direction?

[00:05:56.820] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Well, I was a wedding photographer for 11 years and probably halfway through my career, I started getting really bad social anxiety and would have almost panic attacks at weddings because of the lack of control of the weather, the emotions, the people, whatever. You know how crazy it can get on wedding day.

[00:06:17.550] - Speaker 2

We do.

[00:06:19.310] - Candice Coppola (Host)

I think it was a lot of that coming up and me being type A perfectionist, wanting things to go just so. I was like, I don't think I can do this. F or physically and emotionally for my body, I was just run down. Two days after a wedding, I'm out. It was halfway between probably my career that I decided that I'm going to start doing a little bit of business coaching and seeing where that takes me. T hen from doing that, I was like, Holy shit, why does nobody have pictures of themselves on their website? These are professional photographers that don't even have a picture of themselves. From there, I started working with my coaching clients. I would do a quick little session with them at the end of their coaching session, and then I would talk about them on social media. Instagram wasn't big back then, so it was Facebook, and I would post their image, post a little bit about their business. From that, people started reaching out like, Oh, can you do this for me? I want pictures like this. S lowly and slowly, it grew into a business. I did both businesses side by side, full-time for a good five and a half years.

[00:07:30.750] - Amalie Orrange (Guest)

It wasn't until COVID, which was a crazy time. Everybody knows in the wedding industry, it hit you within a day, all of your weddings were canceled, everything like scrambling to try to figure out how to do things. So that was like my perfect open door moment where I was like, this is my chance to say no to weddings because I wanted to for so long and just go and do branding fully. So it was a big jump, but I knew that I had to do it.

[00:08:04.320] - Amalie Orrange (Guest)

Some blessings have come out of COVID. I don't want to minimize the trauma that we've all experienced, but some blessings have definitely come out of COVID. I love the opportunity to just ask that question of anybody who's made a big pivot in their career because I know there's always someone listening who feels like they're on the precipice of making a big change and they need to hear stories like yours, like mine and like others where it just shows that you can make a pivot in your career. You can do something different and actually be happier.

[00:08:36.000] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yes, and make more money doing it.

[00:08:39.090] - Speaker 2

Amen. I think that's.

[00:08:41.970] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Why so many people are scared to leave the wedding industry because it is such a moneymaker. And you think like, I cannot make this type of money anywhere else. But you definitely can. Yeah.

[00:08:53.730] - Speaker 2

Trust.

[00:08:54.470] - Amalie Orrange (Guest)

Us.

[00:08:54.830] - Speaker 2

We're telling you the truth. Well, congratulations on this incredible pivot. I mean, over the last few years that you've gone full-time into brand photography, you've really built an incredible brand. And I found Amelie through Google. I was just on a whim decided that I was going to check out an opportunity to maybe get brand photos on a Sunday afternoon. And I found Amelie's website. She was the first person listed on Google. Her images were beautiful. I was like, Wow, she has a studio. Everything just felt right. I reached out to her and she got back to me, maybe within 45 minutes. It was on. I was like, All right, girl, let's sign. Let me give you all my money. Let's do this. And well, look where we are now.

[00:09:37.250] - Candice Coppola (Host)

I love it. That's what I wanted to hear. Google is a big thing.

[00:09:41.990] - Speaker 2

Yeah, it is a big thing. And it's making sure that you're showing up there. One of the first search results I think is so important in any business. And it just goes to show you the power of search engine optimization and results because I don't know if I would have found you any other way. Well, let's dig into my first question for you. So as I mentioned on last week's episode, I talked about how my lack of confidence and a lot of self doubt held me back from initiating a brand shoot and going to get updated, refreshed photos. I literally felt like I was catfishing people. I'm like, These photos are so fucking old. I don't look like this anymore. This was when I was 35. Now I'm 40. We need to do something about this. I know that episode helped people rethink their brand photos and hopefully it gave people a little bit of a push. One of the number one reasons people said why they haven't gotten their brand photos refreshed or haven't even done a brand shoot in general is because they lack the self confidence. They don't like the way they look.

[00:10:43.430] - Speaker 2

That was the number one response I got when I pulled Instagram. And you know this, Amalie, because you're the photographer. You know our insecurities and some of our hang ups. So my first question, and I just want to maybe even get this out of the way at the beginning of the episode, help to build people's confidence. What advice would you give the person listening who's been putting off their brand shoot because of how they look?

[00:11:06.300] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Just do it. I mean, it sounds simple, but if you have a good brand photographer and you are upfront and honest with them and tell them your insecurities, I want people to tell me this, if I don't love my arms or my stomach looks a little fluffy in pictures, I want to hear that because there's ways of posing to minimize that. There is different ways to position wardrobe to change that. So that shouldn't be a hang up. And I know I'm 47, I'm going like premenopausal. I'm getting a little fluff on me. I know exactly how it is. So making sure that there's confidence within that and being very upfront with the photographer that you're working with.

[00:11:51.350] - Speaker 2

Yeah, I agree. I think communication is really important. And I'm sure you're going to share more about what we need to communicate to our brand photographer to get prepared. But yeah, I agree with you. Communication, letting someone know exactly what you might be self conscious about, or just the fact that you want to do this but you're nervous about how the pictures will turn out because you are nervous about how you look, I think goes a long way, wouldn't you say?

[00:12:16.680] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Oh, yeah, for sure.

[00:12:18.690] - Speaker 2

Yes. I'd love to talk about why we need to update our brand photos. What are some of the benefits of hiring a brand photographer like yourself to get new imagery?

[00:12:29.250] - Candice Coppola (Host)

I think the biggest thing is now, especially since COVID, everything is online. People are buying for people they're not even talking to. I have clients that book me who have never spoken to me. They see me online, they see me on Instagram stories, they see pictures of me on my website. People want to know who they're giving their money to, who they're spending with. They want that connection, and that's done through brand visual imagery and videos.

[00:12:55.810] - Speaker 2

Yeah, it is. I think it makes all the difference, too. It helps to accelerate that know, like, and trust factor. People feel like this is a real person that I'm hiring. You're able to connect with someone through your images and through your videos that you might have professionally done. You are now offering video as part of your package, right?

[00:13:13.850] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yes. It's something that I taught myself in the last few months, and I'm so excited to be starting to do that with my clients.

[00:13:20.670] - Speaker 2

Yeah, the juxtaposition between the two, still, images and video, I think are so important to have for your brand. I was watching a YouTube video the other day and they were talking about, I think they were quoting Gary Vee. I'm not a fan of nor not a fan of. I'm just in the center. I like how he swears a lot. That I like. That I can dig. But he was talking about how short form video and short form content is king right now. And it can be so hard to create some of that stuff. And it's nice to have a little bit of video when it comes to your brand shoot, too. So I love that you're also doing that. I think for me, one of the most important reasons for updating my brand photos was to be able to move on to next level projects and have the images that would allow me to do that, whether I was promoting a course. Of course, I'm a little bit different than our listeners, but promoting something, launching a new service, maybe bringing on new team members are all good reasons to get a brand shoot, right?

[00:14:22.910] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Oh, yeah, definitely. I feel like, especially if you're doing podcast interviews or speaking engagements, you don't want to use the same images over and over again. You want to show some variety. And especially showing up on social media, you need that variety as well. You don't want like, Oh, there's that girl in the same pink top, same picture over and over again.

[00:14:42.990] - Speaker 2

Yeah, which is what I was doing for five years, by the way.

[00:14:47.660] - Candice Coppola (Host)

So.

[00:14:48.330] - Speaker 2

I want to ask you a question about selecting the right brand photographer because I think if somebody can understand the process a little bit better, they're more than likely going to find a person who captures them in a way that makes them feel really confident and feel really good. And they're going to end up loving their pictures, which is so important. Do you think there's a difference between hiring just any photographer? Because in the wedding industry, we have lots of photography friends, right?

[00:15:13.400] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yeah.

[00:15:14.100] - Speaker 2

Versus a brand photographer?

[00:15:15.780] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yes, there's a huge difference. Like I said, I was in wedding photography for 11 years, and that definitely showed me the importance of the details, the portraits, the moments. But branding, photography, and learning is a whole different thing. I've got to know who my clients are, who their clients and customers are, the marketing trends, visual trends of posing and what is selling right now and what is key for them through what they're doing. For example, if they're using these images for Instagram marketing and they need some white space, or they're using it for their course, those are huge things. And I think a wedding photographer or a portrait photographer wouldn't know to leave that or questions to ask in that case.

[00:16:05.780] - Speaker 2

I think that's a fair point. There's definitely a lot of research that goes into brand photography from a brand photographer standpoint. There's nothing wrong with having your photographer bestie take some photos of you quickly to refresh. But if you want to do a brand shoot like what Amelie does or like what I've had, hiring a brand photographer for that, I think is key to making that come to life.

[00:16:29.290] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Absolutely. I 100 % agree. I think it's the knowledge in the marketing side of the business and then knowing that these aren't just for you. These are for your clients and customers. Ideally, that's why we're doing a session is so you will attract those people.

[00:16:44.470] - Speaker 2

Yeah, I agree.

[00:16:46.110] - Speaker 3

How do we.

[00:16:46.830] - Speaker 2

Find the right brand photographer? If we know that we should look for somebody who specializes in brand photography because it can make the difference between getting back some nice photos that you can use for the next six months versus maybe getting back a gallery of images that could last you for years and you could potentially use for a variety of different purposes. How do we find the right person? What should we be looking for? What are some criteria?

[00:17:11.010] - Candice Coppola (Host)

So first and foremost, do like what you did. Go for a search, see if the images connect to your brand. Just like any other photographer, they're going to have a very specific style, so you want to make sure that aligns with your own brand. If you're light and bright and got fun pops of color, you're not going to want to hire a photographer that edits a moody dark, lots of shadows. That wouldn't mesh well with your brand. Finding somebody who just aligns with that, and that could be through Google searches, Instagram, just looking through and finding maybe your top three. Don't overwhelm yourself because it can get to be a lot. So looking for those and then reaching out to them and asking to see full galleries of images. This is so incredibly important because, of course, we're going to show our best work online and on our website and on our Instagram feeds, but you want to be able to see if that's cohesive and consistent throughout all of their clients' full gallery of images. And then I would say third is making sure that you have a good vibe with them. Check out their Instagram stories or their Reels and see how their personality is on there.

[00:18:23.370] - Candice Coppola (Host)

If it's somebody you're like, I don't like this girl, she does this. But reaching out to them, scheduling a call, that is a huge thing. If I can get somebody on the phone and talking with them and find out what they need, that makes all the difference to see for our personalities. Because I might not be for everybody and everybody might not be for me.

[00:18:43.900] - Speaker 2

Yeah. Well, I think you're for everybody, if you want my honest opinion. Thank you.

[00:18:48.970] - Candice Coppola (Host)

You're.

[00:18:49.620] - Speaker 2

Welcome. Listen, my branding session with Amelie was so great. I'm a stylist by nature. I've done gazillions of shoots and I'm used to styling things. And Amelie was styling me. She was styling the props. I didn't have to do, I didn't have to work during my own brand shoot, which was foreign to me because every brand shoot I've ever done, which was never to this scale, I was always setting things up for the photographer to shoot. And it was so nice. Amaligh did it all for me. I just stood around and was waiting until it was time to jump in. It was so fantastic. I love it.

[00:19:21.840] - Candice Coppola (Host)

You came very well prepared, though. I did.

[00:19:24.840] - Speaker 2

I did.

[00:20:26.340] - Speaker 2

Well, let's talk about preparedness because I think the results that you get from the shoot do directly correlate to how prepared you are for the shoot. And it does take some preparation on your part and communication likely with the brand photographer. So we understand what we should be looking for in a brand photographer. What do we need to do to make sure we get the most out of our session? So I.

[00:20:50.030] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Would say ask your photographer for recommendations. That would be for if you're not comfortable, you feel like styling yourself or your wardrobe or shopping, I have a stylist I work with, I would always say always hire hair and makeup. Ask them who they recommend because these are... The team that I work with is the team that I've worked with for the past 13 years, and they're incredible and I trust them. They know my client, they know my style of editing. So to have that cohesiveness throughout their entire session, nice natural look, just elevated, nothing like crazy glam, that makes a huge difference. Also, preparing your props. Depending on what your job is and what you're doing or offering clients, if you sell a product, whatever the case may be, thinking about curating all of those props together to make a cohesive look throughout all of your images is as important as your wardrobe. Then I would say planning your shot list. That helps me, helps you, it helps everything stay organized. From there, we can plan props and outfits to go with the specific shots. In my studio, I call them sets. We'll do one set and that's got an outfit or two, different props that we're bringing in.

[00:22:11.060] - Candice Coppola (Host)

That all of that is planned when you are planned and you feel like everything is all put together, that takes a huge stress off as well. It does. I would say those are the top things to prep and get ready for your session.

[00:22:26.330] - Speaker 2

I think props are a lot of fun, but there can also be a lot of stress. What is the right prop, depending on what you do? Would you say, for inspiration for props, obviously look to what you naturally do, what your job is, and try to find props that can help show that role?

[00:22:43.530] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yeah. I tell everybody it's tools that you would use in your business. Let's say I'm photographing a photographer. Of course, they're going to need their camera, they're going to need their computer, maybe their phone, they work off of it. Getting some, depending on what type of photography they do, maybe having them bring a client in and we'll do some mock shots of them working with a client and directing. Thinking about the tools that you use in your business to use as props and then also staying within that total range of your brand colors so that you could add accessories or plants. This is one of the sets behind me that I use for my clients, which is like an office set. So bringing in different books or plants or flowers or whatever to mesh in with your brand colors is a huge help, too.

[00:23:30.500] - Speaker 2

Oh, yeah. Ladies, this is your permission to go to Home Goods, Target, Michael's. Yes.

[00:23:36.790] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Hacks right off for all your.

[00:23:39.010] - Speaker 2

Go shopping, sister. And for clothes, PS, because when it came, I bought lots of clothes for my shoot. I was having a crisis, so I had to buy a lot of options. My accountant's like, What's all this?

[00:23:55.280] - Candice Coppola (Host)

For my brand shoot, this is a big deal.

[00:23:58.110] - Speaker 2

Right off, yeah. Yes. Speaking of clothes, let's start off with, what are some don'ts when it comes to wardrobe that you think are pretty universal across the board? What should we maybe stay away from when it comes to clothes for our brand shoot?

[00:24:14.420] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Anything that you're not comfortable with and you wouldn't wear on the regular. So for example, I like my nice flowy tops. I would never wear anything that's form fitting or super tight because I would feel restricted. I'd feel like I'd be fixing my bra all the time. So wearing things that are super comfortable for you and that represent an elevated brand that you're trying to get to. So for example, if you do barn weddings and that's your thing, and you don't want to be doing them anymore as a wedding planner, thinking about elevating that look so that you can potentially reach clients that are more ballroom or outdoor venue or hotels or whatever the case may be.

[00:24:59.340] - Speaker 2

That's a good tip, actually. Just in preparation for your brand shoot in general, what Amelie is saying, too, is this think forward, think about where you want to go, maybe not where you are right now. But this brand shoot is also meant to help lift your brand up into its next phase. And that might be with a different set of clients, budget wise or esthetic wise. So to keep that in mind with clothing, what would you say make good options for clothing?

[00:25:25.370] - Candice Coppola (Host)

I would say stuff that's in your brand colors or that same tonal range, stuff that you're comfortable in, something that you would meet a client in, but also represents your personality well. So it's pretty much the opposite of...

[00:25:38.380] - Speaker 2

What not to do. What about undergarments? Anything that we should consider when packing and selecting undergarments for our brand too.

[00:25:47.520] - Candice Coppola (Host)

And so this is something I include on my packing list with my clients, making sure that you have a nude bra and underwear and spanks to match if that's something you do, as well as a dark bra and underwear. Because if you're changing from, let's say, a dark outfit to a white suit, you're going to be able to see that. And that's not something that I'm going to fix on my end. So making sure that you have to have that level, that planned out and prepped when choosing your outfits, that you bring those. No matter what, I would say always bring nude and black as options for undergarments.

[00:26:24.640] - Speaker 2

Agreed. And having as many options as possible so that you feel comfortable in the clothing that you're wearing, trying your clothing on the night before, making sure you're making your selection, bringing more than you probably need to, wouldn't you say?

[00:26:38.870] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yeah. People feel like they're moving in whenever they come to a brand shoot.

[00:26:43.030] - Speaker 2

Oh.

[00:26:43.240] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yeah. They're like, I have a whole wardrobe rack and I only need four outfits.

[00:26:49.730] - Speaker 2

It's true. But you need options. Women know sometimes something fits that I'd be.

[00:26:54.720] - Speaker 3

For, and then you put it on.

[00:26:55.850] - Speaker 2

The next day and you hate how you look in it. It's all about how you feel. So having options. And then also what I loved about Amelie was as Amelie went through my wardrobe and started making suggestions based on what I had brought as to what would photograph well, what would work well, what she felt like would be on brand. But not only that, but on brand for a longer period of time. So the photograph would last longer because of what I was wearing wasn't so trendy or so different than what my brand was.

[00:27:28.360] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yes, for sure. I love to go through and do that wardrobe edit with my clients because it makes a huge difference. And what you might think looks good on camera, if it's like a small check or stripe or something, stay away from that. I'll definitely go through everything with you once you get here and go through the edits.

[00:27:48.060] - Speaker 2

What about other accessories like jewelry and anything else? Do you think we should bring options for that? Have fun, keep it minimal?

[00:27:55.760] - Candice Coppola (Host)

I love a great earring or statement necklace, so I would definitely say... And that's something that can help pop an outfit. So bring options for that as well. Get a jewelry organizer, get everything set together. Something great I've seen some of my clients do is they'll get these little jewelry bags on Amazon and they'll pop it over the hangers. So everything is all organized per outfit. That's a huge help.

[00:28:20.450] - Speaker 2

Oh, that's fun. You should have an Amazon storefront with fun little things. Oh, girl. I should do a lot of things. But that would be so fun. Your suggested items for your brand shoot and to organize things and put things together. I think that's just a little fun idea. Yes, it is. My next question for you is when we're talking about brand shoot, there's a difference between different, I guess, style shoots you could do? You can do headshots, you could do a mini session, you could do a big branding session. Would you mind just sharing what people can expect and maybe what expectations they should have from each style session?

[00:29:01.130] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Every photographer is going to be totally different in what they offer as far as branding. Branding is a new type of photography, so it's like we've had to write our own rules on what works. But I would say for headshot sessions, that is very typical without all photographers. It is literally from bust up with some room. Those are great for speaking engagements, podcast interviews, something you could throw on LinkedIn, or your email profile. Super easy. Those are quick sessions, and it's literally just a headshot.

[00:29:35.910] - Speaker 2

That's it.

[00:29:37.570] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yes, that's it. Then going into mini sessions, for me, those are great for my clients that are returning clients o they want to freshen up every season, or they just need continual content in different outfits or looks. Those are usually about 45 minutes and I have another one that's an hour and 30 minutes. Those are good for just refreshing your brand images. Or it's also a great starter package for somebody that isn't sure that they want to do a full brand session or even know what they need right now. And then moving on to my full sessions, those are where I work one on one with you, finding out about your brand, your client. We go through colors, we go through style guides, we go make a pentress board together so I can see your visuals. I'm a very visual person, obviously, so I love being able to see what my clients have in mind. If it's from poses that they love or set ups like, Oh, I love this desk set up. Is that something that we can do in your studio? I think like, p entress is a huge... I hated it when I was in the wedding industry, but for this, I love it because it gets us on the same page visually.

[00:30:53.370] - Candice Coppola (Host)

And I'm all about... I want it as inspiration and it helps us plan, but I don't want to use it as a form of copying. Yeah, I agree.

[00:31:01.960] - Speaker 2

I think p entress is a great place to get inspired and then to make it your own, which is so important, right?

[00:31:07.200] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yes, for sure.

[00:31:08.610] - Speaker 2

And the big brand session, that's what I did. You can expect that to be a multi hour, maybe multi outfit or even multi location if you're moving around shoot, right? Yeah. So that we can.

[00:31:21.220] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Do 2-3 locations. Honestly, since I'm based in Florida, most people do not want to be outside. It is hot all the time. Even now, we're in Spring and it's 95 degrees outside. But yes, having multiple locations, having a variety of wardrobe changes, the full brand session that I offer is technically can get you a year's worth of content. That way you're able to use it throughout all the different places, your website, your social sites. If you have a course pages, Pinterest, all of that. So it's a few out. I would say we did a what, four hour session, probably?

[00:32:01.620] - Speaker 2

Yeah, it was four hours. And then at hour four, you're like, do you want to keep going? I just didn't have any energy in the tank. I was like, Girl, no. I think we got it. Yeah, it definitely takes a lot of energy out of you doing a full day brand session or really, I think, doing any of the above. There's nerves, there's preparation, there's a lot of expectation, which just takes a lot of energy. So I think that's another thing to be prepared for, too, is knowing that it's going to be a long day and you need to bring your energy and expect your energy to need to be refilled throughout the day because it's a lot. Yes, for sure.

[00:32:42.810] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Drinking lots of water beforehand, eating a great breakfast. I have snacks here. I've got drinks here. We're all good.

[00:32:50.940] - Speaker 2

What about for choosing locations? I know that you have an actual studio that has different set designs, which is amazing. It's all in one location. But for the listener who maybe doesn't have a brand photographer with access to that, do you have any suggestions about selecting locations for their brand shoot? Yes.

[00:33:10.200] - Candice Coppola (Host)

It all depends on what you're doing. As far as a wedding planner, might be a good tip to reach out to a venue that you're on their preferred vendor list. Working with them, maybe say, Can I come in for two hours and do a shoot here? Style a table, act like you're working with a bride, or planning a session with them. That is a huge deal to make sure that it makes sense of what you're doing, because I'm not going to photograph you out in the middle of a field. How does that make sense to planning a wedding? Yeah. No, it's.

[00:33:41.360] - Speaker 2

True, though. Make sure the story that you're telling makes sense to what you're selling.

[00:33:45.600] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Yes, exactly. Thinking about what you do and where you would do that. If you have your own studio that you meet clients and do consultations with your couples, using that as a space so that people can... That will come top of mind when they're saying, Oh, yeah, I remember her showing pictures in her studio when she meets with clients. It has that connection with them. Then also thinking about going on somewhere like home studio list. That has a great variety of places. So if you can't find a venue or you don't have a cute office and it's super dark, you can find so many different places on there that are made for photographers to come and help with sessions that have nice and bright light, different areas. Usually their homes or their different studios, pre set up for something like that. Oh, that's.

[00:34:40.150] - Speaker 2

So fun. I had thought I was going to have to rent an Airbnb to do a brand shoot. you know, because that's what I thought I was going to have to do. And then, of course, I came across you and I didn't have to do that. Yeah, another good option.

[00:34:52.850] - Candice Coppola (Host)

But again, it's scary too because, of course, Airbnb owners usually hire great photographers and they make it look crazy bright in there. And then you get there and you're like, what is happening? That's actually.

[00:35:05.180] - Speaker 2

A good tip to know that sometimes the photos are misleading because they've been edited to look brighter than what the natural light situation really is. Yes. So that's why.

[00:35:14.940] - Candice Coppola (Host)

I love Home Studio List because it was created by a photographer for photographers to find places to rent with beautiful lighting.

[00:35:24.950] - Speaker 2

Oh, my God. That's fantastic. It's called Home Studio List. Is it homes studiolist. Com? Yes. Awesome. That'll be in the show notes. That's such a great resource. I've never heard of that. That's amazing. So good. Well, listen, I am so grateful for our time together today and of course, for you photographing me, making me feel like a million bucks. Thank you so much for coming on today's episode of the podcast. If somebody wants you to be their brand photographer, which, PS, they should, how can they learn more about your work and set up a consultation with you and inquire? So I'm.

[00:36:26.270] - Candice Coppola (Host)

Year I had a girl from Germany and another gal from Greece. Oh, wow.

[00:36:33.480] - Speaker 2

[00:36:38.680] - Speaker 2

[00:36:41.160] - Candice Coppola (Host)
