Hey there friends, welcome back to the Power and Purpose podcast. It's your host Candace and welcome to our first trend report of 2025. Over the next couple of weeks, I will be releasing some fun, informative and strategic episodes all about trends in the wedding industry, predictions for what might be trending and also what might be out and some suggestions for how your business can continue.
to evolve in an ever changing, rapidly changing marketplace. Little check in with you. How you feeling? How you doing? How's 2025 treating you? At the time of recording this episode, it is the 100th day of January. It's January 28th and it feels like this month will never end.
Hopefully this year doesn't feel similarly. Hopefully it doesn't feel like the year that never ends. I'm feeling very optimistic for this year. And I hope you are too. I think the general sentiment across the wedding world is that most folks are feeling very optimistic about this year and feeling that this year will be more fruitful, more profitable, and just better energy all around. But things are changing pretty rapidly when it comes to marketing.
And that's what I want to talk to you about today. I want you to get ahead of some of these trends and I want you to start implementing some of the strategies that speak to you and your brand so that you can be ahead of the curve. So let's dig in to our 2025 marketing trend report. What's going to be hot in the wedding world and for wedding pros when it comes to marketing this year.
My first prediction is that I think 2025 is the year of going deep instead of wide when it comes to networking and relationships. I think that wedding pros this year should be focused on meaningful networking and deeper connections, more authentic relationships with fellow vendors and industry peers instead of casting a wide net of superficial connections, instead of trying to
Candice (03:10.22)
Horde all the fish and hoard all the connections. I think it's time for you to form stronger referral pipelines and more collaborative partnerships with select groups of people. And what this really means is that I think this is the year where you just keep your eyes on your own paper for the most part, and you focus on nurturing relationships. And you focus on the people who focus on you. And I can hear my BFF Carla in my ear. Is this something that we were talking about?
a lot recently when she paid me a visit here in Barbados, Carla Tenik, who you will be hearing from very shortly, by the way, very shortly on the podcast. But Carla shared with me something that she heard from Sam Jacobson during a presentation, which was focus on the people who focus on you. And I think wedding pros are feeling the desire to have more meaningful, deeper connections. And I think those deeper connections are what's going to actually advance your business, bring you clients.
and help grow your brand, not the superficial friends with everybody, but more so the deeper the connection with wedding industry pros. And I'd love to hear from you if you're feeling this too. If you're feeling the desire to go deeper with a smaller group of people, then try to be the most popular person in the room. With that said, I think going deeper versus wider can also extend to some other areas of marketing. Maybe this also applies to just getting
a little more clear on what marketing channels you want to use this year, simplifying your marketing, maybe choosing one or two key channels. You know, I love an omnipresent marketing campaign. I did a whole entire podcast episode on it, but listen, not every strategy is for every business. So if you are preferring to not cast a wide net with marketing, but actually be more targeted and strategic, I would say that going deep rather than wide with your marketing channels might be a really great strategy.
And the payoff from this is being more consistent in fewer places and creating higher quality content that positions you as an expert. All good stuff, right? Option for you. So that's my first prediction this year is I think that this is gonna be where a lot of people gravitate towards. The second marketing prediction that I have is interesting and I think you're gonna be curious about this one.
Candice (05:36.192)
It's brutalism in both marketing and just wedding designs in general. If you're not familiar with the term brutalism, it has really made a comeback over the last several years. And you've seen it in interior design, you've seen it in graphic design, and I think you're gonna start seeing it in weddings. And we kind of already have started seeing it in wedding design, but I also think you're gonna see this in marketing. And this is more of a raw, deconstructed way to present things.
Brutalism shows you the inner workings of how something works. I'll give you an example of a brutalist design. It would be like a designer watch where when you flip it over and you look at the back, it's not just a stainless steel or a gold back, it's glass and you can see the inner workings of the watch. That is what I would consider a brutalist design. It shows you the interior, the interior of it or the makings of it, the mechanics of it.
are actually what make it beautiful. And instead of hiding those away behind something, we actually show them. And you're gonna see this in marketing because I think clients are increasingly wanting to see how it works and are desiring a more raw, stripped back look and feel for everything from their wedding to, I think you're gonna see this in web design. I talked about this with Jen from Tonic Sight Shop.
on my episode with her, you should listen to that. Those are our website trends that you need to know. Jen's hit list and shit list for 2025. And you're gonna see this in website design, marketing, and actual wedding decor. I want you to think of things that are not polished, a little unfussy. We're gonna talk about unfussiness a lot in this episode. Unpolished textures, behind the scenes details, and a deconstructed aesthetic.
And brutalism also has an element of boldness too. I mean, it's bold to show the inner workings of something or to strip it down and allow the construction of it to be the beauty behind it, right? And so brutalist elements can be leveraged in your branding and of course in your marketing to cut through the overly soft romantic imagery that we often see in the Instagram feed and just in wedding marketing in general.
Candice (07:54.498)
I think that brands that have bold marketing campaigns, bold colors that might even kind of flip on its head what it means to be a wedding planner brand, really stray far away from the norm in branding. And I'm not going to call anything out because I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. That's not what this is about. Do you? Your style, if you're flowery and romantic, you're going to love what's coming up shortly. But I think that brands that have more of a raw, bold,
look about them are going to stand out more in the wedding industry, especially with their marketing. Now, when we talk about brutalism, it leads me into my next point, which is real authentic moments in both the wedding, but in the marketing of your services as well. There is a tremendous amount of AI awareness right now. And I'm going to be straight up with you guys as if I wouldn't be. I'm going to be really honest.
When I'm scrolling on Instagram and I see an AI caption, I immediately have a reaction, a negative reaction to it, just so you know, and I can pick them out. Even the hard to find ones, I know that AI wrote it for you. And it creates a sense of mistrust because you didn't write that. And so like, why are you using AI to...
tell the story of your business or why are you relying on it so much that I can easily see that a robot wrote that for you. And I know that this kind of goes against what we want you to do, which is to do it messy and just get your content out, which I fully believe in. all this to say, my experience in seeing AI-generated content and feeling a lot of mistrust behind it is not unique. In fact, the other day I was scrolling through Pinterest and I'm like,
This is insane. There's so much AI generated images. It's a problem over there, a big problem, I think, because everything looks fake. like, don't, this isn't real. don't want to, this isn't something that is real. I remember bringing to my hairdresser a photo of like my short haircut that I have right now. And she's like, girl, this is an AI image. This isn't a real person. I was literally shocked. I was like, you've got to be kidding. She's like, this isn't real.
Candice (10:09.302)
And your expectation of having hair like this is not rooted in reality. All that to say, there's tons of AI awareness and your couples, your customers, they're as savvy as you are, if not more savvy, okay? And they're savvy, they're hip to AI generated content. And I think they can sniff out anything that feels too polished and too inauthentic and especially to AI. My prediction that real authentic moments
both in weddings and in marketing of weddings, my prediction really stems from this. You're gonna stand out in a sea of AI content by showing real authentic moments behind the scenes of your business, behind the scenes glimpses, genuine client interactions, and personal storytelling are going to persevere this year in marketing. And I also think emotional connections, authentic content, it creates trust.
Where inauthentic AI generated content sows mistrust. Trust is the biggest, the biggest thing in selling. Seth Godin talks about trust in marketing and this is the linchpin. This is the thing that you need to create is trust. And once you have trust, you have the potential to have a sale. You need to create trust in your marketing by being authentic, by sharing things authentically. But disclaimer,
Being authentic doesn't mean bearing your soul on social media. As your business BFF, I've got to be straight up with you. Sometimes I scroll social media and I'm like, girl, in the name of authenticity, you don't need to be telling everybody your deepest, darkest secrets. Some things should just be reserved for you. And I truly believe that. I think oversharing has the opposite effect. People think, gosh, this
Is this person capable of doing my flowers when they're unhinged on social media? Those are real questions. So when I talk about authentic marketing, I'm talking about just being honest and true to yourself and showing more authentic moments from your couples and your weddings. Not necessarily the most perfectly curated tablescape and the most perfectly curated carousel, but trying to mix in.
Candice (12:29.634)
real authentic moments that happen at weddings, because that is what your client is ultimately buying. And that is what they're craving. They're craving those connections. They want those moments at their wedding. And I'm thinking right now of this viral video on TikTok that I've probably seen a hundred times at this point, which is a couple coming in at the reception, being introduced with champagne bottles. And like the crowd was going wild, the groom like.
the corks exploded. It was like literally the most magical movie moment, but it was real. It was authentic. It was just incredible. I could see it in my mind. Maybe, maybe you know what video I'm talking about. That video went viral for so many reasons. First of all, the pace of it, the music, the energy was so good, but it showed a real authentic moment that actually happened.
And now people want to manufacture that moment for their wedding. And I'll tell you what, if that video was your video, and if that was of your wedding, that would have been marketing gold and would have brought to you clients who want to have a fun party, who are free spirited and have great personalities and just really want to shower their guests with champagne. Who doesn't want those clients, right?
But really and truly real authentic moments are going to reign supreme in marketing. And he was even reading a article by Hootsuite, a study they did of just marketing trends for this year in preparation for this episode and also an upcoming Instagram trend episode that we'll be releasing. they talked about how brands are leaning more towards unbranding. And it's so fascinating, right? Because we're like, stay on brand, be on message, stay on brand.
But large brands are now experimenting in their social marketing with not being so on brands, not having every piece of content feel branded or look branded. And I think that all of this is interconnected. Ultimately, we're going to see a craving of some unfussiness when it comes to wedding planning and showing the unfussy side of wedding planning and using that in your marketing is going to drive
Candice (14:46.798)
clients to you. You see this in home decor right now, where there's this layer of unfussiness with home decor, lived in homes is really trending right now. And isn't that so lovely that, you know, the millennial kind of like gray perfect house or like the the shiplap rustic farmhouse, everything perfect, everything matchy matchy is kind of out.
and now lived in homes, the Nancy Meyers aesthetic, this whole vibe is in. And this, it translates into weddings and it translates into marketing. It's all interconnected. I think about, you know, Miranda Priestly and the Devil Wears Prada, where there's that scene between Meryl Streep and, my gosh, I'm blanking on the actress's name, but you, Andy, of course, was the character.
And there's this scene with Miranda and Andy where Andy makes a flippant comment on a sweater or something or skirt. And Miranda Priestly talks about the core, the lore behind that skirt and all the pieces that made that skirt come to life and all the trends and also how that skirt is then going to dictate trends in the marketplace. It's fascinating because it's true.
And what you see happening in home decor, what you see happening in fashion, this unfussiness, this more lived in laid back vibe, that is going to make its way in weddings. It's already happening. And it's also going to make its way into how you market weddings because the eye buys. And in order for us to attract a new set of clients, we have to show them the latest trends of what's trending right now. And that's lived in luxury. And you're going to see this big time.
And I hope it influences your designs as well for all my designers out there, my floral designers, my invitation designers, my planner designers, lived in luxury. I can even see this influencing photography styles in a very positive way. So we're going to see this big time this year. Hey friend, hear that noise? And thanks to flow desk for sponsoring this episode of the podcast. Now let's get back to the episode. My next trend is kind of an offshoot of this all interconnected and it is romanticizing business and life.
Now, this isn't new, but I've seen such an uptick in this, in content that romanticizes the everyday and also creators and trendsetters and interior design and fashion, this kind of romanticized version of things. Intentional living. And I think in 2025, there's going to be a bigger shift towards slowing down.
Candice (19:28.096)
and savoring experiences and enjoying life for its own sake. I'm also speaking from my own personal experience, because this is one of my big goals this year is to romanticize elements of my life, having been influenced, of course, by others to do this. And I think this desire to be more intentional about how we live our lives and to find joy and magic in everyday moments, it's going to carry over to how clients plan their weddings, which means it carries over into how you market your business.
They're gonna want experiences that reflect meaning and personal enjoyment. And I think that there's an opportunity for you here to also use this to your advantage with a little bit more lifestyle marketing in your business, showing how you romanticize your own life or romanticize the planning process or the gallery delivery process or the invitation design process. And this might be celebrating small moments with your clients.
this might be sharing passion projects that you have, or just even highlighting slower, more intentional aspects of your day that are a bit more personal. It humanizes you and it also attracts clients who share similar values. We're also seeing romanticism in design. So while we have brutalism kind of on one side, of course we're counterbalancing that with a lot of romanticism. And when I think of romanticism in wedding design, I think,
of lots of candles. think of bows and ruffles and mixtures of textures and fabrics. think of softness and femininity in colors and fabrics. And that's leading the way right now. It's leading the way in pretty much everything, which I love. It's even influencing me in my home. Of my home decor is becoming a little more romantic. So you're going to see this play out in
trends and it probably will be for the next, at least the next year or two, because the wedding industry doesn't advance as quickly as home decor. Now, the next trend as a part of this trend report is having multiple niches in your business in specific categories. think expertise is really on the rise in the industry. Clients want specialists. They want people who specialize in what they need and you need to get
Candice (21:52.738)
really specific. So maybe, and I've preached this for many years, you're the tented wedding expert in Napa. And so you specialize in tented weddings, vineyard weddings, home weddings. Those are micro niches as a Napa wedding planner. Or maybe you are the Ralph Lauren inspired photographer.
and your aesthetic, the weddings that you photograph are very Ralph Lauren inspired, which just is a specific style. When you say Ralph Lauren, you immediately think like Americana, nostalgic, New England luxury, quiet luxury, all very Ralph Lauren. You think of horses and polo and stripes. Being known for a niche or even a few micro niches, it differentiates you in a very crowded market.
It differentiates you from a sea of sameness where we're just a wedding planner trying to relieve your stress or an invitation designer that does classic designs. All of that is interesting and has merit, but your customers are much more savvier and much more smarter. And I do think that there's some, maybe some SEO power behind some of these niches we'll have to see. But I think that, you know, with consumers being smarter,
and knowing that they want somebody who specializes in fusion weddings or Hindu weddings or South Asian weddings. They're those search terms to find you, whether it's on Instagram, TikTok, and of course, Google. This niching into multiple specific categories is probably gonna be the way forward for some time. And then who knows, in five years we'll be deniching, because it's all a cycle, right? So the...
final prediction for 2025 brings in the AI a little bit heavier. And this is one that I am going to be watching. And this is AI searching. We have an evolving landscape when it comes to searching for stuff and getting information. We don't just go to Google and then go to a third party website. Now we have GPT and all its cousins and sister and enemies. You know, you've got
Candice (24:07.15)
You've got these things. And we're seeing AI driven searches becoming more common. And it's not just, I'm not just talking about Google search engine results, which are, have this AI layer to them. But what I'm talking about is, that people are using ChatGPT to search. They're going to be asking ChatGPT to help them plan their wedding. And they're going to be asking ChatGPT for the best photographers in Napa.
They're gonna be asking chat GPT for the best light and airy photographer in Monterey. They're gonna be asking chat GPT for, you know, asking it questions and it's gonna be giving answers based on search engine results. And if you were to go into GPT right now, which you should be doing, so log in, pause this episode, log in.
I want you to ask it who the top, whatever it is you do in whatever location you are in is and see what the results are and see if you're in that list. Also, then ask it for its sources. And this is where things get dicey. Because guess who its sources are? Of course, the sources are Google. It's going to be Google reviews. It's Google search engine ranking. And it's also
And this, I take zero pleasure in sharing this with you right now. Zilch, zero. It's also some of those mega websites that we all collectively loathe. Those are gonna be its sources. And I'm gonna be paying big attention to this this year because I do think that this is going to upset things. And I want you to figure out
how your butt can get. InChat GPT listed as one of these businesses for the search terms that you wanna be found for when somebody is searching. And you really need to be optimizing your online presence for AI, making sure that your online presence, your website, your social media, your social media profiles, your blog, your reviews, all state what you specialize in, your location, your unique selling points.
Candice (26:24.014)
testimonials are gonna be big. AI searches pull from content on the internet in context of content. So the more specific and consistent your info, the better your chances for showing up in AI search results. You're also gonna need to stay flexible. And I know you're like, girl, I got enough to do. I feel you on this. But running a business, being a wedding planner is not about planning weddings. It's about doing all this other stuff.
but you're gonna need to stay flexible because Google may surprise all of us in just how it continues to adapt and merge AI into the search engine results that it delivers. So I want you to keep your eye open for changes in how search results are displayed in index, but also in your standing. And this goes out to anybody who listens to this podcast who prioritizes SEO. If that is you, I want you to listen to me closely. If you've been working on your SEO for years,
you know exactly what the hell you're doing and you dominate that, you need to hold on to your crown because I'll tell you what, some of the techniques you've been using for years and some of the things that you are doing may no longer be relevant. And in an instant, things can change and if you are not paying attention, it can change on you in a bad way. So you need to future-proof your SEO.
Okay. And pay attention to what's going on. Pay attention to SEO experts who are teaching this stuff. I'm not, I mean, I'm very well versed in SEO. I probably could teach it, but I, I'm not looking at it every day. You know, I am looking at my SEO every day and I'm paying attention to my traffic to make sure it's not dipping down. And I'll tell you, I spent some time with a bunch of creators whose, whose businesses rely on a lot of high volume search engine traffic.
and they noticed an insane decline. Like let's say, you know, they were 60 % of their traffic was from Google search. It went down to like 8 % with algorithm shifts and changes like massive. And it's just, it's going to be scary as a business that relies a lot on SEO. So all my SEO heads, I want you to prioritize SEO, but I also want you to make sure that you're not.
Candice (28:47.246)
letting go of your foot on the gas when it comes to SEO and that you're paying attention to how things are changing because they're changing rapidly. So those are my trends, my trend report for the first half of 2025. Let's go through it really quickly. One more time. Let's recap, write these down. Going deep instead of wide, I predict that meaningful networking and even selective marketing channels for those who crave more consistency in marketing are going to be big trends this year.
Brutalism in wedding designs and marketing showing more of the behind the scenes. Real authentic moments in weddings and in marketing. I think this is going to be a big one. Unfussiness, not being so fussy. We have a lot of AI awareness out there right now and people are craving real and authentic. Romanticizing business and life. Romanticizing weddings and the look and feel of them has always been a big trend, but it's
Really, I really see this right now in home decor and fashion and I know it's gonna spill over big into weddings. Intentional living, lifestyle marketing, all gonna be big this year. Nishing into specific categories and having multiple micro niches are gonna be big for all wedding pros this year. Expertise is on the rise and clients want specialists, so get specific. And finally, AI searching, it's here to stay, chat cheap ET.
Chat GPT is gonna throw wedding planning for a loop this year. I'm paying attention. I think all those low budget DIY clients can revert to using Chat GPT to plan their wedding. So if that is your niche, we might need to have a little shakeup in your business because I'm worried, I'm truly worried for you. If it's hard to get somebody to pay for your services, if you're a wedding planner, pay for your services.
and you just offer a day of coordination or the bare minimum is going to be much harder this year with AI. I fully believe that. So you need to evolve your SEO strategy for the AI landscape and you need to optimize for AI. All right, friends, I would love to hear from you. You think I got it right?
Candice (31:01.848)

Sometimes, the key to raising your price as a wedding planner is having a little audacity.
I don’t want 2025 to be the year where you let the side of your brain that believes you can’t do things get in the way of you doing them. Like…
Raising your price
Growing your team
Building your brand
Getting paid more than your babysitter
Instead, I want you to imagine this…
You’re wrapping up your biggest year in business yet. You’ve hit $100K, working with clients who value you, charging rates that actually pay you like a CEO, and running a business that feels as good as it looks.
What changed?
💡 You stopped waiting for permission to level up.
💡 You stopped thinking six figures was only for other planners.
💡 You started pricing yourself for profit—not just to stay busy.
💡 You had a little extra audacity that believed it was possible.
Growing your wedding planning business toward the income goals you have is WAY more possible than you think. You just need to switch up a few key strategies in your business, and I promise, it’s right there.
📣 Next week, I’m hosting a FREE masterclass where I’m breaking down exactly how wedding planners hit their first $100K year—without overworking, undercharging, or waiting years to “earn” it.

Wedding planners, if no one has told you yet… Happy Valentine’s Day!
Here’s what I know about you: you pour your heart into every wedding, do everything you can to calm the chaos, and somehow keep timelines, seating charts, and emotional meltdowns all in check.
So here’s my Valentine’s wish for you:
💌 May your inbox be at zero (or at least less terrifying).
💌 May your couples actually read their timelines… and respect them.
💌 May your next inquiry be a dream client who doesn’t ask for a discount.
If you feel this in your soul, share this post with your couples and let them know how lucky they are to have you. 😉
ILYSM!

It all started with one deep-ass conversation.
A few weeks ago, I was sitting on my patio in Barbados with @c10ike, talking for hours about life, business, friendship, and everything in between.
No agenda, no filters, no bullshit. Just real, unedited conversations.
And somewhere between the beach, the lattes, and the 5-hour deep dives, we realized something: these conversations deserved to be shared.
So much of what we see online is curated to perfection. But the best moments? The most transformative, soul-filling, perspective-shifting conversations? They don’t happen on a stage, or in a perfectly polished IG post.
They happen in the in-between.
On a couch, barefoot.
On a patio, wine in hand.
When the masks are off, and we just talk.
So this week, I’m bringing you my newest series on the podcast: Patio Chats.
In this episode, we’re talking about:
✨ Why we need more scruffy hospitality
✨ Paying attention to the people who pay attention to YOU.
✨ Why your “soil” determines what you attract.
✨ The small ways we can all create better ripples in our industries, our friendships, and our lives.
