Listen, in today’s ultra-competitive wedding industry, staying ahead of the game is KEY to running a successful wedding planning business. As a wedding planner, it’s important to establish your brand and showcase your expertise in innovative ways to distinguish yourself from your competitors. Today, I’m going to share why every wedding planning business should have a blog to do just that!
Trust me, with over a decade of experience in the wedding industry, an effective blog strategy can absolutely change the game when it comes to marketing your business in a sustainable way. When done well. You’ll be able to effectively communicate with your clients, establish your brand, and ultimately position your wedding planning business as a leading player in the industry. Does that sound good? Let’s dive in!
Do you know your ideal client?
I promise I’m going to dive into the 5 reasons next, but before I do I just wanted to make sure that before you start writing your blog you do know what types of clients you want to read it. I’m not talking about their favorite coffee order or the fact that they binge-watch Vanderpump Rules. If you aren’t confident you know EXACTLY what your ideal client wants to hear, I would love to invite you to join me inside the Ideal Client Cocktail here. I will even throw in my favorite rum punch recipe!

#1 Increases SEO and gets customers to find you on Google
As a coach for fellow wedding planners, I need to tell you: most of you are SLEEPING on SEO. It’s not as hard as you think it is, and trust me when I say: you are smart enough to figure it out. Content marketing is the BEST way to generate new leads for your wedding planning business without burning TF out.
One of the key benefits of having a blog is that it can help your wedding planning business rank higher on Google and get in front of more potential clients. By producing quality content consistently and optimizing your blog posts for search engine optimization (SEO), you can make sure that your website is appearing in front of more people who are interested in what you have to offer.
#2 Your wedding planning business blog can act as binge-able content to help future customers know-like-trust you
Blogs are a great way to build trust with potential clients before they reach out and book. Your blog as a wedding planner allows you to showcase your expertise and share your unique style and vision that sets your business apart. Through a blog, you can show your ideal clients what you value (and in case you haven’t figured it out yet: people want to hire wedding planners who value what THEY value).
Millennials make up a large portion of our ideal clients in the wedding industry, and they are passionate about researching and consuming content. We know that they actively seek out information about different vendors and products and wedding trends to make sure they know EVERYTHING they need to know about their wedding day.
This makes blogs a great place for potentially cold readers can “warm up” to your business so that by the time they hit your contact form, they are ready to book. Blogs allow millennials to get an inside look at what you have to offer, from reviews of your services to photographs from real weddings, so that they can gather creative ideas for their own special day.
#3 Educates your potential customers so you don’t have to
A blog can be an incredibly effective tool to engage with and educate potential clients who want to know more about your expertise as a wedding planner. It can serve as a platform to answer frequently asked questions, share insider tips and tricks, and discuss current industry trends that are relevant to your clients. By using your wedding planning business’ blog as a resource, you can provide your clients with valuable insights even before you meet them in person, which can play a crucial role in establishing trust and building long-term relationships.
Moreover, blogging allows you to communicate with your clients on sensitive or complex topics that you may not want to discuss in detail over and over again, such as vendor tipping or what a realistic wedding budget is. Your clients can access the blog posts at any time they want, making it a convenient and user-friendly way to deliver important information.
By creating a comprehensive blog that addresses all of the concerns and questions that your clients have, you will be able to establish your authority in the field, build stronger relationships with potential clients, and position yourself as an authority in the wedding industry.

#4 Helps you to establish your brand
Your wedding planning business blog should be an extension of your brand, which means you should focus on showcasing your unique style in order to start attracting the right clientele. By featuring venues and wedding styles that your ideal client will be attracted to, you are reaffirming that your ideal client is in the right place (and you are the right choice!) while simultaneously repelling those couples who are not the right fit. For example, if you love elegant outdoor tented weddings, you’ll likely not want to feature ballroom weddings or rustic barn weddings.
Beyond featuring real weddings, you can also create informational blog posts that help establish your brand (using the same example as above, you could write about the top 10 wedding venues in your location – and only include the venues YOU want to work in). When choosing topics remember that if you want to book luxury weddings, you’ll want to avoid topics like “How to create a DIY seating chart” or things like that that will attract a more budget-conscious clientele.
Ultimately, your blog should be a place where potential clients can get a sense of your brand personality and style. Use creative comparisons, bold statements, and vivid descriptions to showcase your expertise and highlight your unique selling points. Remember, your wedding planning blog is an opportunity to showcase your creativity and stand out from the competition, so don’t be afraid to be bold and innovative with the content you share!

#5 Provides content for social media marketing
One of the biggest benefits of having a blog is that it provides a steady stream of content for social media channels. By sharing your blog posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram – wherever your ideal client hangs out – you can engage with your audience, drive traffic to your website, and ultimately increase your bookings. It’s a great way to stay consistent!
On top of that, you can repurpose your blog content as social media content too. Your blog post showcasing 10 favorite venues, for example, could turn into one new Instagram post for a #FridayFeature for ten weeks in a row. Don’t be afraid to get creative and have fun with it! If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I believe that sometimes we just need to TRY things. Marketing can and should be, just one big experiment, and we don’t always have to take everything so seriously in our businesses!

Starting a Blog for Your Wedding Business
Blogging can be a powerful marketing strategy for wedding planners who are looking to draw in more ideal clients. It gives you an opportunity to create meaningful connections and be discovered by potential couples. Better yet, blogging is quite inexpensive and gives you the freedom to tell your story in your own way with the help of images, videos, and text. You’ll have to invest some time into the process, but if done right, it can pay huge dividends for your business.

PSA for my OGs ✨
You’ve got the talent and the experience... but you already know… it’s not as easy as it used to be. And it’s only getting harder.
The pros who will actually survive the next generation of business are the ones prioritizing visibility.
I’m seeing insanely talented and experienced OGs in our industry being overlooked because they’re not showing up.
And if that’s you, I have a question...
👀 What are you going to do about it?
Comment 190 and I will send you the link to listen to this week’s episode of The Power in Purpose where I’m sharing the 5 ways I see wedding pros playing small (and what it’s costing you).

Everyone’s talking about how AI is making everybody sound the same.

Once you know how to train ChatGPT on your brand voice? It can quickly become your unfair advantage.
In this week’s episode, I’m talking about:
👉 What “training” AI really looks like
👉 How to make it sound exactly like you
👉 Why this is the skill that will set you apart from your competition this year
And if you’re ready to go beyond listening and actually do the work?
Join me later this month for my live workshop where I’ll walk you through the exact process of training ChatGPT on your brand voice so it becomes your full-service marketing assistant.
Wedding pros, don’t sit this one out. Comment 189 and I will send you the link to listen now (and workshop details so you can register!)
